Federer vs. Tomic: Clash of Two Generations?

The entire nation of Australia will be hoping for a miracle when Tomic plays against arguably the best player ever : Roger Federer - in the most hyped clash between two generations at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday.

John Tomic once claimed that Bernard can win 10-15 Grand slams. Well he will be up against the only person ever to win 16 GS till date: Roger Federer. A lot of people are predicting upset for this 4th round match but can this really happen?

Instead of predicting the outcome at first, let’s look at the game statistics for both these players at Australian Open so far:

* Federer has played only 2 matches so far in AO

We can clearly see that Federer is ahead of Tomic in almost all the areas of the game. It’s hard to believe that Tomic can create an upset here unless he plays extraordinary tennis and outplays Federer in his own game. Both of them have met once before on grass court and Federer was the winner in 4 sets. The stats for the match were as follows:

The one factor that can play a very important part in this match will be the crowd as they will be cheering for Tomic. But Federer’s experience and calm approach should certainly help him ease through this match. All in all, Tomic no doubt is the future of tennis and provides flair to the game of tennis with his variety, but as of now it certainly seems like Federer should win the match tomorrow! What do you think?
