Famous Track & Field Quotes

Welcome bloggers,

Through 18 years of competitive athletics I understand needing inspiration and motivation. What can be more inspiring than the words from famous athletes, actors, politicians and more. With summer track in full swing, I've compiled a list of quotes dedicated to the coaches, parents, and athletes who need some motivation to clear the next hurdle.

Enjoy!!

Quote #1

"I'm going to go out a winner if I have to find a high school race to win my last race."Johnny Gray

Quote #2

"I cannot have survival as my only goal. That would be too boring. My goal is to come back in my best running form. It is good for me to have that goal; it will help me."Ludmila Engquist (Olympic champion hurdler facing cancer and chemotherapy)

Quote #3

"When I came back, after all those stories about Hitler and his snub, I came back to my native country, and I could not ride in the front of the bus. I had to go to the back door. I couldn't live where I wanted. Now what's the difference?"Jesse Owens

Quote #4

"There are clubs you can't belong to, neighborhoods you can't live in, schools you can't get into, but the roads are always open."Nike

Quote #5

"Pressure is nothing more than the shadow of great opportunity." Michael Johnson

Quote #6

"I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs."Jesse Owens

Quote #7

"Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts."Steve Prefontaine

Quote #8

"It hurts up to a point and then it doesn't get any worse."Ann Trason

Quote #9

"The gun goes off and everthing changes... the world changes... and nothing else really matters."Patti Sue Plummer

Quote #10

"You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can't know what's coming."Frank Shorter

In conclusion I would like to give athletes who have upcoming contests a bit of advice. Never compare yourself to other athletes; always compare yourself to the athlete you were yesterday. Give your all in every aspect of training. It is counterproductive and a simple waste of time to just go through the motions. Work hard and I'll be here with more motivational quotes in your time of need. Anyone with some inspirational words of their own please feel free to post a comment.
